The number of visitor log at the CeBIT website, practically doubled in comparison to last year. From mid-2007 to the close of the fair, approximately nine million page impressions/net hits from 138 countries were counted (4.6 million page impressions/ net hits from 134 countries), which means approximately 1.5 million users, most of whom came from the USA, the Netherlands, Sweden and Austria. Highlights in the server program included the Opening Ceremony of the CeBIT show, which was broadcast live on the Internet for the first time. Shopping on the Internet has become big business. The major software manufacturers and consulting services are now focusing on linking the Internet shopping mall to such logistic processes as warehousing, invoicing and shipping.
State-of-the-art object-oriented software components will soon fully automate communications and networking for mobile offices (via mobile phones, personal digital assistants, PCs and printers). The "JINI" platform (Java Intelligent Network Infrastructure) promises to render communication between terminal equipment so intelligent that even cameras, scanners and all types of network components will be able to log onto the LAN (Local Area Network) automatically.
Call center solutions with integrated voice recognition and synthetic voice output are now available for the first time. Leading software manufacturers have also made their programs compatible with the Linux operating system as a standard feature.
